Going To a Party Party

Blogging Tunes: Chillout Lounge

I promised myself I would blog today, so I guess I'm making good on that. If lying in bed at 8:15p on a Friday night and pecking away with two (sometimes three or four) fingers on my iPad counts. I am so thoroughly exhausted that can't even bring myself to go down to the garoffice to author something of substance on my computer.

This wasn't a particularly strenuous week, so why am I so tired? Maybe it's leftover from Tuesday when I woke up at 3:30a, couldn't get back to sleep, and wound up working from 4am. Maybe the mile I walked today was enough to put me over the edge. Maybe the two days I biked to the Ferry... oh wait, that was *last* week.

It's been a year to the day since I received 5.25 billion stem cells -- the source of my new immune system. yeP! today I'm 1. Happy birthday to me. There are lots of pics to share and stories to tell from the last few weeks -- esp from my trip to Florida -- but all that will have to wait.

The range of motion restriction and the joint and muscle pain in my hands, arms, shoulders -- my entire upper body -- isn't getting any better. In fact, it's a little worse. This is a bit scary since we upped my Tac dosage which was supposed to take care of this. Ah, maybe that's why I'm so tired. I've been on 0.4 Tac for a couple weeks now -- up from 0.35 and 0.3. That's a big increase.

Aight, I'm pooped. And my fingers hurt. Besides, Heather, RobM, and I are going to a show tomorrow night, so I need all the rest I can get.

Mellow bedtime kicks,

Right Off Your Head

Blogging Tunes: none

I'm finishing up a mediocre Panda Express lunch at the UCSF cafeteria after a rare mid-day appointment.  I usually get a burrito from Carmelina's, but I didn't want messy fingers as I'm working as I stuff my face.

The combination of the Prednisone and the 0.35 Tac really hasn't done shit for all my upper-body pain, soreness, stiffness, etc.  So Dr. Damon wants me to go back up to 0.4mg on the Tac.  I agreed as long as we can stop the Prednisone.  The side effects were mild, but they were real: hard to sleep; more irritable; etc.

So we'll go up to the 0.4 and see how it goes.  0.4 was the magic number back in December when my energy-level was great and before all this upper-body stuff, so hopefully this'll do the trick.

I'll be on a plane for 6 hours tomorrow, so maybe I'll write some more.  For those who haven't been following, I've been invited to sit on the keynote panel at the NCCN's annual conference on Thursday.  Just in time too... it's gonna rain for the rest of the week in SF, but it's gonna be 80 every day in Hollywood, FL.

A few quick pics of the big double-bday party we had at the Bay Area Discovery Museum (badm) on Saturday:

Orion's "Truckin" cake and Floyd's "Stealie" cake (Steal your cake?)

The kicking continues,

Sometimes You're the Windshield

Blogging Tunes: Dire Straits - Ticket to Heaven

Real quick update.

The Good:

  • Finally feeling better after having a nasty cold (whatever the kids had) for a couple weeks
  • Energy level up a bit (but not quite to the level of January) -- hoping to start biking to the Ferry again
  • Heather's mom is here for two weeks!  (Yes!)
    • Heather had surgery on her wrist - carpel tunnel stuff
    • Short term pain, long term joy
  • Floyd turned 4 and is doing great; Orion is better after a bout with hand, foot, and mouth.  Oy.
  • I'm loving my job and CRM had a great quarter; also the new campus is nixed
  • Finally ditched my PoS Blackberry for an iPhone 4S.  Sooooooo much better.  Best part is that 94 WYSP streams perfectly over 3G via app.
  • Big forkin' tax return this year -- ah, the joys of home "ownership"; now I gotta reswizzle my withholdings at work so I actually take some of that home vs. giving it to Uncle Sam each month.
The Bad:
  • My good friend Rich "Ding Ding Wikki" has cancer.  He's blogging about it.  Kick its ass, Rich!
  • My upper-body pain isn't really much better.  They upped my Tac level to 3.5mg (from 3) and started me on a little Prednisone to hopefully relieve the inflammation.  Not really happy about this as it's affecting my sleep and (it seems) my mood
The Ugly:
  • Drove down to San Jose only to see the Sharks score on the first shot of the game against the Flyers.  Final score: 1-0. Ugh.
Kicking the best I can,
