Yo, Philly!

Hey Philly Peeps! My oldest and dearest friend, Lauren "Bagel" Bacal Spike is once again leading the Philly Bleeds Greene team for the Big Climb at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday May 11, 2024 supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Locals, please consider joining the team. Others, please consider donating to Lauren's campaign.

And Then One Day You Find Eleven Years Have Got Behind You

Thursday December 30, 2021 - Day +14

Blogging Tunes: Grateful Dead - 7/14/90 - my third (and "it") show.

So here's everything you need to know right up front:

  • Floyd, Orion, and Heather all tested NEGATIVE for COVID.  This is beyond huge.
  • My counts (and energy) continue to climb on the fast track (see pic below)
  • I will be discharged tomorrow 12/31/2021 and will be able to go home based on bullet 1.
    • Hopefully I'll have enough energy to stay up for the Phish stream.
  • The next 45 days are critical:
    • Heather has gotten trained on how to administer my IV magnesium (which I'll need for the next 30-60 days) and several other things
    • Multi-hour UCSF visits twice a week will start on Monday January 3rd and continue through end Feb. We're going to need a bit of help with transport for this... I will reach out to San Rafael and San Francisco people separately.
  • We'll likely get another Meal Train going in January.  Stay tuned here and on Facebook for info.  Looks like, it'll just be the same URL as before so bookmark that if you wanna help. Thanks, Tammalamma and all the past Meal Train helpers.
  • The Eagles can actually clinch a playoff spot with a win @WFT and a little help from the 9ers and the Packers.  Who'da thunkit?
By tomorrow, WBC will be well above 1.0, ANC will be 0.5, and platelets > 30

Now let's get Cosmic.  The dates of this UCSF stay exactly match my (second) induction for AML 1.0.  That's right... after we failed to achieve remission at St. Mary's in November 2010, I was admitted to UCSF on Dec 9, 2010 and discharged on Dec 31, 2010.

This is how I looked then (with Orion, Brown, and Maisy):

Dec 31, 2010

For AML 2.0 stem-cell transplant, I was admitted on Dec 9, 2021 and will be leaving tomorrow (Dec 31, 2021.) As if the the unlikelihood of the relapse wasn't enough... these dates... the exact same dates.  Wow.

So once again, I'll miss the annual late December Flyers/Sharks game taking place tonight at the Shark Tank.  Going down with my ol' pal Tripp and his kids has been a tradition of sorts.  Stop at the Kezar Pub and say hi to Cyril, Spaghetti Factory in San Jose for early dinner, warm ups on the glass, then usually (but not always!) a Flyers loss.  I smell a win tonight coming off the gritty (lucky?) victory over the Kraken last night.

Here are some pics from a few years back:

So that's what I got for y'all today.  Unless something whacky happens, I probably won't blog until Tuesday.  Just assume no news is good news.  And finally:

  1. This is great news, JG! Happy to help with transport if I can. Happy New Year indeed!!

  2. Awesome News!!! Happy New Year...In this country we say Happy New Year!!
