Blogger no longer sends email to followers when there are new posts. This is a bug and there's nothing I can do about it. So please visit often and let your friends know too. I've hidden the annoying "Followers" gadget too. Uy vey.

Day 8 in UCSF

Blogging Tunes: Phish 10/29/10 - Set II

I won't lie... This week has been really tough. Extreme nausea, fatigue, no appetite, you name it. I just haven't had the energy to post. I want to thank everyone for all the commented on my last post... It really means a lot.

Strangely, I can't seem to get my laptop online, but the iPad is working well. Now we'll just have to see if I can post a pic from the iPad. Crap, it doesn't look like it. I'll research a little. The sinus thing continues to be serious. They need to watch that closely, but so far we think it's under control.

The good news is that I'm done with the second round of chemo (intense ARA-C) and it seems to be working. I guess that means I'm one step closer to remission. We'll have wait and see.

My brother and my niece are visiting this week. He just got typed for a bone marrow match, so we'll know in a couple weeks.

What else? Floyd is in Mass with Gramma and Grampa. Gramma's sent some cute pics, but of course I can't post them.

Big Eagles game this Sunday, and I actually think it's on regular TV out here. Go Birds. Go Cliff Lee. Go Flyers!!

OK, ima sign off for now. I'll try to email one pic to see if it works.

  7. John,
I just read about your trials with AML. Wow...Deja vu. I just got through supporting one of my oldest friends who underwent a stem cell transplant for Hodgkins Lymphoma only a few weeks ago. I hope you find a good donor match without delay. I joined Team in Training a year and a half ago to run a marathon for Greg. The next one I run will be for you. Please call out to me if there is anything I can help with.

  8. Dude! SOOOO glad to hear this round is moving you in the right direction. Sorry it's been a toughie - but this, too, shall pass. KEEP KICKIN'!!!

Sweet Kezar banner, man. Had fun hanging with you years ago. :)

Angry Birds must be wussum on iPad.. Love it on my iPhone, but it's a little tiny on the screen.

Hope you can get clear of this phase pronto and on to the next! Good luck with the match. I feel good vibes on that outcome!

  10. Here are my brief thoughts from my short visit from 12/15 - 12/19
    1. Cancer sucks, cancer sucks, cancer sucks.
    2. Chemo sucks, chemo sucks, chemo sucks.
    3. John was way better Sunday than he was on Wed/Thurs (when chemo stopped). We could even laugh a little when the Eagles were down 2 TDs!
    4. I plan to be back out in SF shortly when UCSF confirms that I am a match and wherever I am staying (I will tell all of you) I expect lots of bay area visitors.
    5. Orion is the cutest little boy (OK I'm a bit partial).
    6. I couldn't have made it through the week in SF without my 9 year old daughter. Little girls are amazing.
    7. John's new house looks great! Heather is really doing a great job with it in spite of the situation.
    8. Thanks to everyone for your continued support. Just put yourself in the position of having two kids under 3, not being able to see them, touch them, hold them, talk to them, feeling worse than you ever have felt in your life, and being scared about the future and you will understand why these posts are great. Keep them coming. dg (BMDTB--bone marrow donor to be)

  11. Hi JG,

My thoughts are with you. Glad to read you're through round two, and hoping your strength returns enough to enjoy the football, crack some jokes and post some pics!

    Best wishes! Jonathan
